| Chapter 1: What Is Personality? |
"Generation Me" |
An interview with Jean Twenge, a personality psychologist who looks at generational cohort effects. A discussion starter about "What do personality psychologists know?" and "What can they tell us?" (See "Finding Google Video Clips" below). |
Ladd, C. (2005). "i" -- a short film by Chris Ladd. New York: IronCLadd Productions.
|
A film project by Chris Ladd (www.hirechrisladd.com), in which he explores his identity. Noteworthy are its accuracy, focus on the applied aspects of identity (i.e., he wants to figure out what he will do after graduating from college) and interviews -- with a psychic, and with two of his psychology professors at Skidmore college. It makes for an entertaining 32 minutes (To obtain the clip, see "Finding Google Video Clips" below). |
| Chapter 2: Evaluating Personality Research |
Against All Odds (Program on Correlation) PBS/Annenberg Communications |
Great review of correlation. You can get by with just the first 25 minutes or so, or let it run its full length. Also, great footage of identical twins |
| Chapter 3: Perspectives On Personality |
Personality Theories (Insight Media #PHE-117) |
Serviceable presentation of psychodynamic, humanstic, and social cognitive approaches. Uses Nelson Mandela as example. Many famous personality psychologists on tape.

| Chapter 4: Motivation and Emotion in Personality
|
The Face, Vol. 1, BBC, with John Cleese |
Fabulous video concerning emotion and the face. The entire video spans four programs. I find that Volume 1 is the most focused on psychological principles relevant to this chapter. |
| Chapter 5: Interior Selves; Interior Worlds |
Discovering Psychology (with Phil Zimbardo). Parts 1-26. The Self |
Depressed selves, happy selves, id, ego, superego (a little). Models of the self with Phil Zimbardo inter “acting” with an acting coach. Enactment of different relationship styles. But see Chapter 9 below, where this might work better... |

| Chapter 11: Personality Development in Childhood and Adolescence |
Worlds of Childhood Series: 12. Interactional styles and attachment (1992). GPN Educational Media. |
The early portions of this film provide excellent footage of mother/infant interactions and attachment. Very good for Chapter 11. |
| Alternate: Erik H. Erikson: A life’s Work |
Very dated, but not bad. Might be better off with any generic developmental film. |
| Chapter 12: Personality Development in Adulthood |
None yet identified. |
